Opportunities for Florida companies: Colombia is the fifth largest economy in Latin America, with a population of approximately 45 million. During the last decade, improvements in security and political stability have fostered economic growth and a secure business climate. With 4 percent GDP growth in 2010 and an estimated 4.6 percent growth in 2011, the Colombian market presents unbounded opportunities for Florida companies.
This constant and rapid growth of the Colombian economy paired with the activation of the U.S.- Colombia Free Trade Agreement is expected to generate new export opportunities for Florida firms seeking benefits from the reduction of the export tariffs.
Colombia is the U.S.’ fourth largest and Florida’s second largest trading partner, with tallying more than $9 billion in trade in 2011. Colombia also is among the top five destinations for Florida origin products, amounting to nearly $3 billion in trade, reinforcing the longstanding trade relationship between Florida and Colombia, and confirming Florida’s cultural affinity with Latin America.
